There are several Brother printers and MFPs that utilize the TN-110/115 family of cartridges. Their specifications are all nearly the same as those spotlighted here.

The Brother HL-4040 color printer was released in April 2007, followed in June by the HL-4070 color printer. The MFC-9840 color MFP appeared in September 2007, and in early 2009 the MFC-9450 was introduced. All print at up to 20 letter size pages per minute (ppm) in both color and black & white and have a duty cycle of 35,000 (35K).

All machines in this family use the same supplies set. Toner cartridges and imaging (drum) units are sold separately, with SKUs for each differing with the geographic market. Color cartridges are available in 4,000 (4K) high page yield and 2,500 (2.5K) low page yield, with black offered only in a 5,000 (5K) page yield. Cartridges are not chipped, but do utilize a flag gear (or ‘reset’ gear) that resets the printer when a new cartridge is installed. This ‘reset’ clears the Toner Life End message. Starter cartridges do not have this reset gear.

Brother HL-4050
